What Is General and Family Dentistry?

General dentistry includes the standard dental services that are necessary to maintain your dental and oral health. Family dentistry means that we see patients of all ages so that families can come to one location for dental care.

Benefits of General and Family Dentistry

There are many benefits of going to a general and family dental practice:

Prevent tooth decay. The primary goal of general dentistry is to maintain your dental health by preventing tooth decay. Professional teeth cleanings every 6 months can help keep your teeth healthy and in place, ideally for the rest of your life.
Improve oral health. Regular dental care improves your oral health by preventing gum disease and providing early detection of soft tissue abnormalities.
Improve overall health and wellness. Oral health directly affects your overall health and wellness. Better oral health reduces your risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Convenient dental care. Family dentistry is convenient because it allows the whole family to receive dental care in one location. Appointments can be scheduled at the same time for everyone so you can make one trip.
Visit one dental practice for life. A family dentist sees patients of all ages, meaning your child can continue with the same dental practice from their first appointment through adulthood.

Why Choose Cambridge Family Dentistry?

As a family dental practice we provide a warm and caring environment for patients of all ages. We treat you like family, getting to know you as well as your dental needs. To us you are more than just a patient; you are a unique individual who deserves the highest quality care. We take a patient-centered approach to dentistry that drives each decision we make.

We keep up to date with the latest technology for improved diagnostics and minimally invasive procedures. Our doctors are always learning and staying informed of current best practices in dentistry so that we can offer you the best possible dental care. These qualities have earned us numerous 5-star google reviews from satisfied patients.

On average, everyone in the family should have a professional teeth cleaning and oral examination every 6 months for optimal dental health. If tooth decay or gum disease are a chronic problem, we may recommend more frequent dental visits.
Dental X-Rays are safe for patients of all ages. We use digital radiology, which uses a fraction of the radiation than traditional film X-Rays require. A protective apron will be placed over your body while X-Rays are being taken as an extra precaution. If you are pregnant, please let us know. In an abundance of caution, we may postpone X-Rays until you are no longer pregnant.
As a family dental practice we provide both pediatric dentistry and general dentistry, so it is not necessary for children to go to a pediatric-specific dentist. We see patients of all ages from infants to adults so that children do not need to switch dental practices when they are older.
General dentistry is most often covered by dental insurance plans. Most plans cover preventive dental appointments every 6 months as well as restorative procedures when needed.
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, children should have their first dental visit around the age of one or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in. When dental care begins at a young age children are less likely to develop dental anxiety and are more likely to have healthy teeth as they grow and develop.
