What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that straightens the teeth and aligns the bite. It can achieve the same results as braces in many cases, but through a different method. Invisalign® uses clear plastic trays called aligners that fit over the teeth and gradually shift them into the proper position. A set of aligners are designed especially for your teeth. You’ll be instructed to wear each aligner for about 1 to 2 weeks, switching to the next one in order until you have completed your treatment.

Are You a Good Candidate for Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is most effective for mild to moderate orthodontic cases. It can treat common orthodontic conditions such as crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, overbite, underbite, cross bite, open bite, and more. There are certain orthodontic conditions that Invisalign® cannot correct, such as tooth rotation over 20 degrees in either direction or tilting the teeth more than 45 degrees. A brief evaluation can determine whether or not Invisalign® would be effective for you.

Why Choose Cambridge Family Dentistry?

We offer Invisalign® technology as a convenience to our patients. By providing orthodontic treatment in our office, we can save you the time and hassle of going to a separate orthodontist. Invisalign® software makes it easy to custom design your treatment to achieve the desired results without a lot of adjustments and monitoring.

Benefits of Invisalign®

Invisalign® is one of the most popular orthodontic treatments due to its many benefits:

  • Virtually invisible. The aligners are clear and fit snugly to your teeth. They are essentially unnoticeable to others.
  • Comfortable. The smooth plastic is comfortable and won’t irritate the soft tissues of your mouth. The aligners move your teeth gradually to minimize discomfort.
  • Conveniently removable. Invisalign® aligners are removable for eating so you don’t have to give up any of the foods you enjoy. You can also remove them to brush and floss your teeth so you won’t need any special tools or techniques to keep your teeth clean.
  • Minimal appointments. You will only need to go in for monitoring appointments every few months.
  • Short treatment time. Invisalign® treatment can be completed in as little as 6 months and typically no more than 18 months.
  • Healthier teeth. Invisalign® treatment makes it easier to keep your teeth clean and free of plaque. And when your teeth meet together properly when you bite down you avoid damaging your teeth.
  • Improved smile. Properly aligned teeth will make your smile look more natural.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign®

How long does Invisalign® take to straighten teeth?
The average length of Invisalign® treatment is about a year. Treatment may be as short as 6 months or as long as 18 months. The length of your treatment will depend on the extent of the corrections your teeth require to be in proper alignment.
How do I clean my Invisalign® aligners?
We recommend brushing your aligners with clear, unscented soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush that is different from the brush you use on your teeth. Avoid soaps with dyes or scents that could transfer to your aligners. Invisalign® makes cleaning crystals that are also effective.
Does Invisalign® cost more than braces?
The cost of Invisalign® is comparable to the cost of braces. The actual cost of Invisalign® depends on the length of your treatment and other factors.
Is Invisalign® less noticeable than clear braces?
Clear braces are similar to metal braces, but the brackets are clear or tooth-colored to blend in with your teeth. The archwire is made of metal and stands out against the teeth. Invisalign® is much more discreet. Unless they know you’re wearing them, most people won’t notice your aligners.
What happens if I lose an aligner?
Losing aligners can happen. If so, we will order you a replacement aligner. In the meantime wear the previous aligner to maintain your results until the new one is shipped. You can prevent loss of aligners by storing them in the provided case whenever you take them out.
